Every day I go to work prepared to be amazed. At least I aim to. Amazed by the things around me and the people I meet. What have I been amazed about these last few days? Amazed that a top marathoner has offered to help me with a training plan to do a full marathon. Amazed that I have enough sponsors to help me on my next book. Amazed to see Mongolian children sponsored by World Vision singing in a choir when previously they were living underground next to steam pipes just to stay warm. Amazed that I met the daughter of the founder of World Vision, Marilee Pierce Dunker. Over the last 60 years, they have helped millions of children.
Today, I was amazed by a young Malaysian man. His name is Matthew Chong from Brandker. Many times during my chat, I could sense he was holding back tears to have come this far. Alone by 12, he left school and started working as a kitchen help and had his own business at 19. In his early 30s, he has now worked for over 20 years and only picked up English three years ago. Imagine that.
He talked about being bullied and picked on but still feel blessed to be where he is today. You might recognise his F&B businesses; Cosans and Mono Sushi. He shared about how much he loves art. Something he realized drawing on his wall with sand from his room as he did not have a cement floor.
Yes, we always need reminders to be grateful and more importantly, what are we doing with the time and resources we have. We can all be amazing in our way with the dreams placed in our hearts. More importantly, may I continue to be amazed and be child-like in all my ventures. I hope the same for you.
