Leaning

It was International Women’s Day recently and a flurry of events supporting the cause happened. I participated in several myself. I’ve never felt undermined because of my gender but we know prejudices do exist from unequal numbers of women in the board to feeling unsafe because we are physically weaker. And so, we must all do our part, women AND men. I am concurrently reading 3 books at the moment. Thrive by Arianna Huffington, Playing Big by Tara Mohr and Lean […]

A Time To Sow

Happy Chap Goh Meh everyone! This was featured in the March issue of Baccarat. A few months ago I blogged about the winter of my life. Call it the valleys or the winters; until you have been at your lowest, only then do you appreciate and recognise your mountains and springs. This was probably my first experience of winter in all my life and I am glad I went through it. I have always been an upbeat person so most people […]

Ambition Is Not An Ugly Word

At the tail end of my marriage (unbeknownst to me), my then husband and I were in a Bible study class and we had to outline what were the characteristics we admired about the other. I came up with a fairly generous list stating words like patience and generosity. He on the other hand could only come up with one word: ambition. Even then, I could sense the word did not come from a positive place. It left a bad taste […]

There is always hope

I am sitting at the airport waiting for my flight back to Kuching. I have just finished a talk with the youth in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu out in Borneo. This is the #1M4Youth Reach Out 2015 event which is aimed at encouraging volunteerism. The reason I wanted to do this was for the kids. Alongside me were 3 amazing speakers, Rob Dyer, Scott Hammell and Eizaz Azhar whom I have interviewed before. I was extremely moved to hear their stories […]

Do You (Still) Love What You Do?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39YUXIKrOFk I am now into my seventh year at my work and I am blessed to say that I still enjoy what I do. I don’t think I can say I know many people who can say that. Did everything just fall in place? Do I come to work every day loving what I do? Am I paid huge amounts of money? Am I lucky? Nope, it’s not the case at all. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always […]

Are You Ever Ready To Be Amazed?

Every day I go to work prepared to be amazed. At least I aim to. Amazed by the things around me and the people I meet. What have I been amazed about these last few days? Amazed that a top marathoner has offered to help me with a training plan to do a full marathon. Amazed that I have enough sponsors to help me on my next book. Amazed to see Mongolian children sponsored by World Vision singing in a choir […]

Love All, Serve All

In June 2010, I had the honour of speaking to Isaac Tigrett. Who is he you ask? The image probably gave it away. He co-founded it at 22 years old and maybe it was a case of being in the right place at the right time. Opening the Hard Rock Cafe at Mayfair in 1971 being served by ex-convicts was indeed radical. Maybe it was the 70s. Although the original founders have already sold their shares in the business, the Hard […]

Thou Shall Not Covet

As I was driving home today from a non-exercise session because it was raining, I was questioning some things in life and suddenly this message rang clearly in my head; Thou Shall Not Covet. I think I was feeling covetous about a particular situation then and it was troubling me. No, I’m not going to get all Biblical on you although I am a proud Christian. The full scripture is “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet […]

Man Or Mouse?

I first met Jen Siow at the end of 2013 through an exercise buddy of mine. She told me briefly about him and asked if I knew him. I have heard of his name, a veteran in the advertising industry with fashion shoots. He’s apparently photographed over 5000 models over the last 30 years. We met and he said he was looking for a muse and I was amused. He ended up taking some glamour shots of me. Friends in photography […]
