I first met Jen Siow at the end of 2013 through an exercise buddy of mine. She told me briefly about him and asked if I knew him. I have heard of his name, a veteran in the advertising industry with fashion shoots. He’s apparently photographed over 5000 models over the last 30 years. We met and he said he was looking for a muse and I was amused. He ended up taking some glamour shots of me. Friends in photography knows him as a veteran in his field.
Why am I praising him to no end? Well, about 20 years ago, he was diagnosed with tunnel vision and although he can see, there are good days and bad days. What takes him forward is dedication, experience and the most astounding spirit. I have hardly seen him without a smile on his face. He has gone on to say that what has happened is one of the best things because it has made him grateful. He believes tomorrow will be better. Meeting him has humbled me not only because of his photography skills but because he remains so optimistic; always looking at ways to improve himself. I’m not sure if I can be as enthusiastic as him if I was in his shoes.
I have asked him what keeps him going. One of his choices is hanging around positive people. In fact, he now has a vision (pardon the pun) on where to take his skills. Having photographed models, he now wants to help regular men and women like me feel and look glamorous. At the same time, Jen is also being current in his approach realizing that people now want professional pictures that are real value-for-money. He calls it the Social Media Kit (see my pictures above). You can contact him at jensiow@jenstudio.com for a chat.
I’ve been meaning to write about him for ages but I thought a picture would paint a thousand words better. I am blessed that he has come into my life showing me what humility and gratitude mean. I am honoured to call him friend.
